About
I found yoga later, and built a practice around that.
I didn't grow up doing yoga, and I didn't come to it through a studio culture obsessed with how a pose looks. I came to it in my forties, tired, stiff, and looking for something that would help my body hold up for the next forty years, not just photograph well for the next forty minutes.
What I found instead changed how I think about the practice entirely. The poses that mattered most weren't the deep backbends or the show-off arm balances. They were the quiet, unglamorous ones: standing on one leg without wobbling, breathing slowly enough to actually calm down, getting up off the floor without using my hands. Those became the foundation of everything I now teach.
Today I teach exclusively for women in their 40s, 50s, and 60s, many of whom are new to yoga entirely, some of whom are navigating perimenopause or menopause, managing arthritis, joint replacements, osteoporosis, or simply a body that doesn't move quite like it used to. My job isn't to get you into a harder pose. It's to help you move through your actual life: stairs, groceries, grandchildren, the floor and back up again, with more strength, steadier balance, and a calmer nervous system than you came in with.
How I teach
Every pose has an easier way in
I teach the modification before I teach the pose. If your knees, shoulders, or back have opinions, we work with them, not around them.
Strength first, stretch second
Flexibility gets all the attention in yoga marketing. I care more about whether you can get off the floor unassisted and stay steady on one leg.
Breath is not a warm-up
We don't rush past breathing to get to the 'real' poses. Slowing the breath down is often the most useful thing that happens in class.
You set the pace, always
Rest whenever you need to. Skip whatever doesn't feel right today. There is no version of this practice where pushing through pain is the goal.
